When your printer is working without flaws they are GREAT electronic devices. When they begin to have jams, failures or other faults… it MIGHT be time to consider what your replacement device will be.
Many of our clients have been reaching out lately asking if a clogged print head can be fixed. The answer is yes however the cost in most cases FAR exceeds the cost of the printer in most cases.
If you are printing 10,000 pages per week or 1 page every 3-6 months… a toner based or Laser printer should be considered!
Why?
Toner is a powder so it doesn’t dry up. Generally toner printers are faster. Jams are rare but IF a toner printer jams clearing it is a very easy process. Toner printers generally can be connected via USB, Network Cable and in some cases wireless is an option. Toner / Laser printers generally last much longer. With standard printing, a laser printer will last for thousands upon thousands of cycles or print jobs. Our office has seen laser jet printers with over 2.5 million engine cycles or print jobs.
We will use the Canon D530 Monochrome Printer as an example:
The Canon D530 we use in the office will print more than 1 box of paper before we need to change the $122 printer cartridge. The printer itself costs about $170. We purchased this printer in 2011 and have installed maybe 7 cartridges in that time. It prints 8.5 x 11, 8.5×14 and several sizes of envelopes. The printer we utilize is only USB however prints can be run from all over the office or via any of the laptops in the store.
